Accounting and Finance Salary Survey Q3 -Q4 2017

Continuing on last year’s trend, we note a marked shift towards a candidate-driven market in both Practice and accountancy positions in Financial Service firms. Particularly strong demand is observed in the volume areas of recently qualified accountants and in practice roles from Semi-Senior to Senior Manager. Initial offers which are at a 10-20% variance with market rate are being offered by many companies to on-board the talent they require.

Within Practice there is still a shortage of candidates at experienced Manager and Senior Manager level (particularly in audit and tax). This is due in part to the trickledown effect of lower intakes of trainee accountants, principally by the leading firms, during the downturn years. In addition, with the workload of Big 4 / Top 10 accountants seemingly ever increasing, including the gradual expansion of the traditional ‘busy season’, retaining talent within Practice is becoming a bigger issue. Even as the number of ACA and ACCA accountants increases, thanks to gradually larger intakes of graduates to training programmes, the actual retention rate in practice is on a downward trend.
